My Birthday Weekend

After a long week back to school, we also had a busy weekend. To celebrate my birthday, we including my parents and Brent, Whitney, and Parker went to Mellow Mushroom on Friday night. Then we had cake from Brick Street back at our house. The boys were good and ate lots of pizza.  They made me a cute canvas.

On Saturday we went to Eggs Up Grill and then went shopping for Jackson's school supplies. My dad was wonderful and cut our grass for us. Our mower broke, and we can't buy a new one right now. My favorite part of the day was getting to snuggle with Brooks for his afternoon nap; I miss that the most when I am at work.

Tim and I went to dinner at Earle Street, and then we had to go to his work party. We ended the evening with Krispy Kreme donuts.  I had a great birthday and am blessed to be 33!

First Week Back

My first week back was long and full of meetings and working in my classroom. I put in a twelve hour day on Thursday and saw the boys for all of ten minutes. The boys have adjusted well. Jackson still asks where I am going and tells me that he misses me. It is hard to be away from them. I miss all of Brooksie's roars and Jackson's funny phrases. My in- laws sent me beautiful flowers, and that made my week better.

We managed to get a trip to the water park in one evening. Brooks wants to go up the stairs to the slide by himself. He gets so mad when I follow him up. He has no fear! Jackson is getting more comfortable too. He still won't go down the slide, but he is swimming in the deeper water.

Jackson had his preschool orientation on Friday. His room is really cute with an ocean theme. He was really nervous and scared walking in. He was very clingy even though he knows his teacher from Mother's Morning Out. Brooks loved it and was all in the toys .  I am hoping the transition is easy for him. He has some friends in his class. I know that Tuesday will be hard, and I hate that I don't get to be the person to take him.  He keeps asking, " you stay with me?" It breaks my heart. I am praying that he adjusts quickly.

Last Day of Summer

This last day did not go as planned.both boys did not sleep well and were up early and very cranky!

Jackson woke up with a swollen eye that was matted closed. It was still not better after a few hours. After calling the doctor, it was decided it was probably pink eye, and a prescription was called in for $36 eye drops! That is ridiculous! At least I didn't have to take him to the doctor.

Neither one of them wanted to nap. Brooks finally fell asleep around 3:00. Jackson played on the iPad.

Jackson found Brooks' paci under the train table and gave it to him. He was so excited to see it, but then he didn't really want it. The boys destroyed the playroom. Brooks is especially destructive. That child even destroys board books. He is really bad about eating paper right now- toilet paper, wipes, etc.

We also read Llama Llama Wakey Wake one million times! Brooks loves that one!

We played on the porch while Tim grilled. Brooks was a sandy mess because he kept throwing sand in his hair.

Even though it was one of those days, I will be wishing I was back home with them tomorrow. They are excited about going back to Noni's.

Night Night

We have a very laid back bedtime routine. After baths and pajamas, we head upstairs to brush teeth. Jackson hates it, and Brooks loves it! I have to chase him to get back his toothbrush!

Typically Tim lays with Jackson. Jackson gives Brook a kiss and a hug and says, "Good night. I'll see ya later!" Then Jackson gives me a hug and kiss and tells me the same thing. Then Brooks wants to get in on the kisses. He runs over with his mouth wide open to give me slobbery kisses. Of course he thinks he's going to bed with Tim and Jackson. This is followed by crying.

Brooks gets his bottle and then usually plays. He lost his popi 4 days ago, so bed time has taken longer for him lately. It hasn't been too bad though. When he is tired, he gets on the couch with me and falls asleep. Then he's off to the crib where he sleeps until around 4.

End of Summer

This last week has flown by.  We have enjoyed the water park and walks. We are in for a rainy weekend, so it will be nice to rest up before heading back to work next week.

We have had such a good summer.  It is really hard for me to think about going back to work.  I really wish i could stay home with the boys. They grow so fast, and I miss so much while I am at work.

I will really miss

• our lazy mornings cuddling on the couch
• trips to the water park
• playing on the porch
• eating breakfast and lunch with my sweet boys
• waiting for the garbage truck and tractor on Wednesday mornings
• trips to the library
• swimming
• walks to the park
• afternoon naps on the couch
• ice cream downtown
• playing play doh
• reading books

Yes I know that we can still do some of this.  But the reality is that I have about 3 hours with the boy during the week before it is bath and bed time.  During those three hours we have to eat dinner, do laundry, and get ready for the next day. I hate it. I wish that summer would never end even if that means having 90 plus temperatures every day.
