Last Week in February

Life has been busy for us. The day-to-day stuff takes up most of our time, and before I know it another week is gone.

We have had crazy weather this week. We were supposed to get a little snow Monday night, but the snow didn't start falling until about 7:00am. We still went to school surprisingly. It was snowing like crazy! The kids just wanted to watch it, so we didn't get a lot done at school. It stopped about noon, and most of it melted by the time we got out of school. I really felt bad that the kids didn't get to play in it.

I really felt badly because I didn't get to play in it with the boys. I took Brooks out early. He was unsure of it. Jackson did not want to go out. They ended up going sledding at a neighbor's house in my parents' neighborhood. Tim had the day off.

It was also an exciting day because I was named Teacher of the Year. I was very surprised and honored. Tim and the boys were there along with my parents. The boys were running wild. I am actually shocked they were able to stay quiet in that little room where they were hiding! I got home to some beautiful flowers and a card signed by the boys. We went to Earle Street for dinner to celebrate. It was an exciting day.

Wednesday was crazy too because a big snowstorm was in the forecast. We were supposed to get 6-8 inches of snow which would shut down the city for days! They decide to call school off for Thursday Wednesday afternoon when it was cloudy and 50 degrees. We went on to church. When we left, it was sleeting. I kept looking out the window through the night- no snow. We woke up Thursday to absolutely no snow and a day off school. Now that is another day to make up at the end of the year. We decided to go eat breakfast at Eggs Up Grill and then go on a snow hunt. Jackson had been flushing ice cubes hoping for snow and was disappointed. Clemson got about an inch, so we drove there to play. There was enough to make a mini snowman and throw some snow balls.

I am hoping for warmer weather and no more missed school!

Being Slack and Milestones

I can't believe I haven't posted in a month. Life has been busy. Tim is taking a class and teaching a class. He stays up late most nights working on that. I am going to the YMCA in the mornings before school, so I am there by 5. That means I am ready for bed by 8:00. I am also taking a Barre class so I do that at least 2 days a week. Of course school is always busy. The boys and I have church on Wednesday nights. Brooks loves going to play in his class. Jackson still needs some pushing, but he always has fun once he gets there.

Jackson is really loving school. He absolutely loves his teacher and is so proud of his work and crafts. She has been wonderful for him. In other news, Jackson is now potty trained! We stopped stressing, and he decided it was time. He stopped holding it for days, and now he goes. Yes, we bribed him with cars. He now goes without the bribery. He is so proud of himself!

Ice Storm 2015

Ice can be a big problem in the South. As of last weekend, we were supposed to get an inch or two of snow. Then the temperature was going to be too warm, and as of Monday afternoon, we were just supposed to get rain. We got to leave school early at 2 because of sleet (teacher workday).  Tim was at home with the boys; he was off. By Monday night, the forecast changed to us getting just ice. The real problem with ice is not the roads. The problem is that trees and power lines start falling when you have a quarter inch of ice build up. By 10:30 Monday night, our power was out. We spent the night all huddled in the bed watching transformers blow up in the distance and listening to trees and limbs falling to the ground.

By Tuesday morning, we had a half inch of ice and still no power. Most of Anderson lost power. It was 57 degrees in our house. Luckily my parents had power, so we headed over there. We tried to save as much from our refrigerator as possible, but we lost most of it.  Jackson wanted to go touch the ice.we made it 2 minutes. Ice is no fun; it is hard and not soft and fluffy.

Our power was finally restored about 1:00. We were some of the lucky ones. We were out of school Tuesday and Wednesday not because of icy roads or cold, but because most of the schools were without power. We have a 2 hour delay on Thursday because the wind chills are supposed to be below zero, and the schools have had no heat. We were told to dress in layers to try to stay warms.

During this time, Brooks has been sick. He started running a fever Saturday. He didn't want to eat and didn't want to play. We finally got an appointment Tuesday afternoon ( AnMed had power.). His fever was 103.3 there, and he weighed 25 pounds exactly. His throat tonsils were swollen and inflamed. Since it is viral, we can only give him Motrin. Seeing Dr. Hart is like magic for Brooks.  $100 for a sick visit now. As soon as we see him, Brooks gets better. His fever broke Tuesday night, and he was back to normal by Wednesday.

Tonight we are praying we don't lose power again and hopefully it warms up soon!

Valentine's Day

Jackson had a great Valentine's party at school. He was proud of his cards and helped me do them. He was so excited to give us the card he made at school. He wrote his name and everything. He even put 4 hearts on the front. Brooks took some to his girlfriends at church.

Last night the boys went to Parents Night Out at Clemson First Baptist.they ate pizza and played while Tim and I went to dinner. It was nice to have a quiet meal.

After I went to my class at the Y, we went to Your Pie and Costco.

Tim cooked shrimp and grits. I enjoyed the day with my boys.
