Ice Storm 2015

Ice can be a big problem in the South. As of last weekend, we were supposed to get an inch or two of snow. Then the temperature was going to be too warm, and as of Monday afternoon, we were just supposed to get rain. We got to leave school early at 2 because of sleet (teacher workday).  Tim was at home with the boys; he was off. By Monday night, the forecast changed to us getting just ice. The real problem with ice is not the roads. The problem is that trees and power lines start falling when you have a quarter inch of ice build up. By 10:30 Monday night, our power was out. We spent the night all huddled in the bed watching transformers blow up in the distance and listening to trees and limbs falling to the ground.

By Tuesday morning, we had a half inch of ice and still no power. Most of Anderson lost power. It was 57 degrees in our house. Luckily my parents had power, so we headed over there. We tried to save as much from our refrigerator as possible, but we lost most of it.  Jackson wanted to go touch the ice.we made it 2 minutes. Ice is no fun; it is hard and not soft and fluffy.

Our power was finally restored about 1:00. We were some of the lucky ones. We were out of school Tuesday and Wednesday not because of icy roads or cold, but because most of the schools were without power. We have a 2 hour delay on Thursday because the wind chills are supposed to be below zero, and the schools have had no heat. We were told to dress in layers to try to stay warms.

During this time, Brooks has been sick. He started running a fever Saturday. He didn't want to eat and didn't want to play. We finally got an appointment Tuesday afternoon ( AnMed had power.). His fever was 103.3 there, and he weighed 25 pounds exactly. His throat tonsils were swollen and inflamed. Since it is viral, we can only give him Motrin. Seeing Dr. Hart is like magic for Brooks.  $100 for a sick visit now. As soon as we see him, Brooks gets better. His fever broke Tuesday night, and he was back to normal by Wednesday.

Tonight we are praying we don't lose power again and hopefully it warms up soon!
