Brooks and the ER

On Friday, July 10, Tim and I went to the Dave Matthews concert in Charlotte, and the boys spent the night with my parents.  We took his car and already had the van packed ready to leave for the beach. Early Saturday morning my mom texted me and said that Brooks had a fever.  By the time we got there it was 102.  I made an appointment for that morning.  We saw the on call doctor who thought it was just a virus but gave us instructions to call if he got worse.  Since we left late, we hit LOTS of beach traffic.   By the time we got there, Brooks still had a fever and felt terrible. He had several nasty diapers but never threw up.

On Sunday, his fever was up to 103.  Motrin and Tylenol were not controlling it.  He didn't want to eat or drink or anything.  After talking to the on call nurse, we decided to take him to the ER.  They were really nice there, and we really liked the doctor.  Brooks had to have x Rays and blood taken.  Getting the blood was the worst.  It took 3 of us to hold him down and one nurse to get blood and hook up the IV.  They gave him fluids and checked his blood.  We left after 4 hours thinking it was a virus.  Brooks still felt bad on Monday and most of Tuesday.  Brooks and I didn't make it to the beach until Tuesday. His fever finally went down by Wednesday.

Fast forward to Friday.  We spent a lot of time on the beach.  The kids were on the bed playing the iPad. Tim and I were both in our room with them packing.  All of a sudden I hear a big thud and screaming.  When I turn around, Tim is picking up Brooks.  I see that his left arm is at a weird angle.  Brooks is screamming and saying "oweeee oweee." Needless to say, we head back to the ER.  Brooks cries the whole way there and keeps saying, HELP. He had to get more x Rays.  The same doctor from Sunday walked by our room and did a double take.  He came in to check on Brooks and looked at the X Rays too.  Brooks actually broke his arm in two places.  One was a complete fracture and the other just a buckle fracture.  They put on a soft cast and gave us a sling.  He was actually proud of his arm.  When we got back to the house, he showed everyone and kept saying, "doctor."  He handled it better than we did.
